What are PDO Threads? Do I want a PDO Threadlift?

PDO barbed threads are designed to lift and support the tissue on the face and neck.
PDO Threadlift

What are PDO Threads? PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are a suture material used in surgical procedures, such as cardiac, osteopathic, and plastic surgery for decades. Hypoallergenic and non-pyrogenic, PDO threads are a safe and effective way to lift and tighten sagging skin. These floating threads come in an array of different styles and lengths. These unique designs help ensure customized treatment for the area you would like to treat. PDO threads come smooth, twisted, and barbed. The smooth and twisted threads are used for collagen stimulation, structure, and smoothing for acne scars, wrinkles, and fine lines. The barbed threads are designed primarily for lifting tissue but also can produce collagen-rich tissue to form after the treatment.

A “threadlift” procedure has been used in the aesthetics industry for years, but most were used as a permanent suture attached to tissue, allowing the suture to break and have the results fall. These lifts were quick and easy but could fail which upset patients. The new technique of a “floating” thread allowed the skin to be lifted but ensured no suture could break or fall as per the old technique. A floating thread can’t lift as aggressively so more threads are needed to get the same results but ultimately became a much safer treatment.

The PDO threadlift can be used on the face, neck, chest, and body. New techniques and threads are evolving as the years pass to offer some amazing results with minimal downtime and discomfort. At Eye Candy Medspa the PDO threadlift is a popular treatment among 35–55-year-old patients. The most popular areas to be treated with the barbed threads are the brows, jowls, and neck for lifting. The smooth and twisted threads are commonly used for acne scars, jawline etching, and necklines.

What should you expect if you have a treatment? You will be here in the office for about an hour. You will have an injection of local anesthetic for comfort and can use Pro-Nox (laughing gas) during the treatment for additional comfort and relaxation. After the treatment, you will have tiny dressings to cover the entry points. Most patients will have swelling and/or bruising for 2-3 days and will be discharged with ice packs for home. Most patients can resume their normal activities the next day. It is normal to feel some tugging and pinching for a week after the treatment. Puckering and tissue bunching can happen and resolve in the first 2-3 weeks.

PDO threads produce collagen stimulation over 90-120 days following the treatment. New collagen growth will help with anti-aging and supporting tissue lift. The PDO threads dissolve during this process and do not stay permanently. The PDO threadlift lasts about a year and can be paired with dermalfillers, neurotoxins, PRX Derm Perfexion, microneedling, facials, and more. Pairing PDO threads with similar treatments can ensure a natural and complete look. A PDO threadlift procedure can be combined with other aesthetic treatments on the same day. A complimentary consultation is recommended before your treatment. We will map out the exact number of threads you will need, the type of threads required, and other treatments that would give the desired results.
